Reading Reflection 4 For my reflection I chose The real reason young women leave their jobs . This article focuses on the fact that the main reason women leave their jobs for another one is because their new job pays more. A study that was done on women between the ages 22 to 35 displayed that “finding a higher paying job, a lack of learning and development, and a shortage of interesting and meaningful work as the primary reasons why [women] may leave.” In the past it was often the case that women wanted to be home with their children to be the primary caregivers, but now times have changed substantially. This old narrative along with discrimination against women, explains most of the pay gap in salary between men and women. The Census Bureau states that the median woman in the United States gets paid “79 cents for every dollar paid to the median man [and] this statistic has held steady since the 1990s.” Lower pay is even a problem in jobs that are have more women working in them.
