PHYSICAL THERAPIST ASSISTANT 2 Physical therapist Assistant Job Description Physical therapist assistants are professionals who are licensed to deal with patients suffering from different form of disabilities. These disabilities may be in form of limitation and impairments to one or more parts of the body that prevents the patient from performing normal bodily functions. The physical therapist assistants are mandated with the task of finding out the causes of the disabilities that occur in the patient; examine the level of patient’s disabilities, evaluate the necessary treatment, and develop a treatment plan that will help cure the disabilities (U.S. Department of Labor, 2012). The physical therapist assistants will mainly focus on modalities of exercise that will help the patient restore the functions of the body parts that have suffered disability. The physical therapist assistants will mainly focus on stimulation of the body parts that have suffered disabilities whereby the therapist will use heat, cold, and electrical stimulants with a specific goal of re-establishing the patient’s proper functionality level. In addition, the physical therapist assistants will teach the disable patients how to use wheelchairs and canes, in the case of the blind. The main focuses of the physical therapist assistants is the strength, coordination, and balance of the patient whereby this will determine the rehabilitation strategies to be used to improve on posture and endurance. The physical therapist assistants have the mandate of treating patients of all ages considering that most of the patients suffering from disabilities are both pediatric patients and geriatric patients. Education and Certification While in high school, the physical therapist assistants must study the basic science course, which are biology, chemistry, and physics and must have passed in all these.
