If anything is dead or presumed dead, then the cell should be presumed dead, which means that it can not perform any aspects of the life characteristics like cellular respiration. Not all cells necessarily need the life characteristics such as nutrition or repairment, and many other more. Specifically, the matured mammalian red blood cell does transports of oxygen (O 2 ) along the circulatory system. They function by generating ATP anaerobically, so that they could efficiently transport more oxygen. Although we have to acknowledge the point that all living things should contain DNA or RNA, we also must remember that the red blood cells are only alive a certain amount of time. 2.
