Sarah Toon has been appointed tothe Practice as Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP). This leaflet explains her role within the practice.Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANP) are alltrained specialist nurses who haveundertaken additional university educationat degree or masters level, in order toprovide advanced nursing care andprescribe.ANP’s can provide treatment and advicefor many problems. Their main areas ofexpertise are in the management of acute(or short term) illnesses.Seeing the ANP does not replace anappointment with a doctor. You will still beable to see your GP if you need to.AppointmentsSame day ANP appointments are availableevery weekday for common illnesses. The ANP can assess and examine you,make a diagnosis and provide advice andtreatment including a prescription ifrequired. They can make acute referrals tohospital doctors or other health careprofessionals for on the day assessmentand admit patients into hospital whennecessary.
