Sloppy Food Science - Scientists often state that science corrects itself - It’s what differentiates science from dogma Brian Wansink - Research: food and our relationship to it - He showed that people who pay less for a lunch buffet end up feeling more physically uncomfortable and guiltier after the meal (even though they ate the same as someone who paid twice as much) - Putting Elmo stickers on apple, made kids eat them more - Stop blogging in 2017, we don’t know why - If you analyze data in hundreds of different ways, you’re going to get a positive signal just by chance - Data detective (Jordan Anaya, Tim Van Der Zee, Nick Brown, James Heathers, and Chris Chambers): doing a lot of research - Data Detective looked a Wansink research - Jordan Anaya found some math mistake (how the numbers were rounded and inconsistency) - Grim and Grimmer: Data Detective found 150 inconsistencies and impossibilities in 4 of the 5 papers by Wansink - Cornell didn’t say anything about the research being wrong -
