MATLAB can represent transfer functions using the tf (t ransfer f unction) command which follows the syntax: >> G = tf( num, den) where num is a row vector representing the numerator polynomial of G(s) den is a row vector representing the denominator polynomial of G(s) The response y'(t) to an arbitrary input u'(t) can be calculated by MATLAB using the lsim (l inear sim ulation) function available in the Control System Toolbox. Given a vector containing the values of the input vector u at successive instants of time compiled in a vector t , the function lsim produces a vector containing the values of the response vector y at the corresponding instants of time. More specifically, the function lsim is used with the following syntax: >> y = lsim( G, u, t) where G is a tranfer function G(s) createted with the Matlab tf command u is a column vector containing the values of the input
