Physics 1010 2-21-2011 Doppler Effect-- change in frequency of a wave for an observer moving relative to the source of the wave When the source is stationary, the pulse stays the same relative to the person hearing it, providing they do not move. In the first link— The intervals between S1 and S2 are the same. Circle 1 is centered on the location of the source, when the first pulse was emitted. The pulse will move to the left, and emit another pulse, and so forth. Doppler effect can be seen in: Police sirens Blood flow Doppler radar Police radars and Doppler effect. Unless the speed is taken from a 90 degree angle, the speed they’re taking is probably lower than the actual speed.

Wave spectrum: On link about Doppler Effect: We can observe that since the source is stationary the emitting of the wavelengths are the same; however, once we make the source move, we can see that the pulses are centered only around the blue dot and the overall wave pattern is different from before. Doppler Formula: Δλ= λ obs- λ lab Δλ / λ = v radial /c Frequency and wavelength are inversely related. If wavelength increases than frequency has to decrease. Wavelength times frequency equal speed of light....
