Unformatted text preview: Based on the theory of a 300 km eruption radius, everything within the black circle would be affected) Environmental Impact factor for New Mexico Legislature for reactivity of Jemez Volcanic field The Jemez Volcano field lies in the northern part of New Mexico roughly 40 km northwest of New Mexicos capital of Santa Fe and 100 northeast of Albuquerque. The Jemez Volcano field has been active for some 14 million years to date with the most recent eruption only 20,000 years ago. Geologically speaking this is relatively new. Hot springs surrounding the Jemez Volcano Field concludes that an active magma body is still present and must be very much active in order to keep ground water on 5 kilometers under the surface at temperatures of 300 degrees Celsius or 572 degrees Fahrenheit. The Jemez Volcanic field also possesses the history to produce massive volcanic explosions that project volcanic material across a 300 kilometer radius around the blast zone.
