Unformatted text preview: / big/40 Optical Mineralogy - Lab 9 Phyllosilicates and rthosilicates Objective: In this lab we will look at two groups of minerals: phyllosilicates and orthosilicates (nesocilicates). We have already seen minerals in lab from both groups. Here we want to identify the minerals, to become familiar with their distinguishing characteristics, and to pay close attention to the distinguishing properties of minerals that are physically similar. Part 1 Phyllosilicates: The known minerals present in this group are: chlorite. muscovit‘e", lepidolite, biotite, talc. and pyrophyllite. Identify the phyllosilicate(s) in each slide, list the critical observation(s) that brought you to this conclusion, sketch an example of the mineral, and state in which type of rock(s) the mineral is usually found. 90x7 (Box 3) Ignore the colored (pleochroic) mineral: / / Mus as v \LL - QM 7n) (heaving)— 'UP 45 g¢¢ond 'I‘thf‘ hag-l. ofilwIflr’ h‘VLl‘L ' SIM!” ¢x+l¢h1Lflh an?“ \/ - L? ”A pegmwh-hs or gran/TLC: 'E¥+"’*&‘L"°‘ 491ch 5‘ 4 ¢ : “Lat/4w fi‘ 5/!“ ‘ Err-J; 851$ 66*“941'6'1 . As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
