Taparia 2 Results When a green filter was added, the photosynthetic rate increased for the initial and middle phases, but it decreased for the final phase. When a red filter was placed between the beaker and the leaf chamber, the photosynthetic rate also increased for the initial and middle phases while decreasing for the final phase. While both the green and red filter followed the same pattern, the red filter had more pronounced results: it produced greater increases in the photosynthetic rate for the initial and middle phase than the use of the green filter did. We compared the calculated photosynthetic rates, when using green and red filters, to the photosynthetic rate obtained with not using any filter at all, which served as our control. Tables Results were calculated according the following equation: Photosynthetic Rate = 10,000m x .0427 (295/273) x 22.413L leaf surface area (m 2 ) No Filter Data Interval m (%O 2 /min) Photosynthetic Rate (µmole O 2 / m 2 /min) Initial Phase -2.00 -1840 Middle Phase .00377 3.46 Green Filter Data Interval M (%O 2 /min) Photosynthetic Rate (µmole O 2 / m 2 /min)
