You may work together in groups of 2 or 3 on this assignment. Each student must explain what
they contributed on the assignment.
1 Description of Project
You will construct a mathematical model from a data set that was generated from an actual
pendulum.
The data will be given to you in an Excel format.
All the physics you will need
is described below.
You will need to construct the O.D.E. with its solution.
You will also
need to compare your model to the actual data by using a graph and finding the maximum
error.
In a brief paragraph, discuss the possible error that was generated from your method
of constructing the O.D.E.. In other words, explain why your approximation differs from the
actual experimental data.
2 Mathematical Model of a Damped Pendulum
Here we will investigate the mathematics of a damped pendulum. Consider a pendulum with
