Name Period Date Determining Reaction Time and Hang Time Objective: To determine the reaction time and hang time using the idea of free fall motion Material: meter stick Procedure: Reaction Time 1. Have one student hold the meter stick vertically as the other student place his/her index finger and thumb preparing to catch the meter stick when it falls. Take note of the reading on the meter stick where the index finger and thumb are initially positioned. 2. The one holding the meter stick drops the stick as the other student tries to catch the stick. 3. Record the distance that the meter stick has fallen. 4. Solve the reaction time using the equation: t = √2y/g The computed time to catch the meter stick the first time is called the normal reaction time. 5. Repeat the procedure thrice. Take note of what happened to the reaction time after several trials. Hang Time 1. Think of a way to measure your vertical displacement from the ground when you jump as high as you can.

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
