Sexuality and Value Systems I relate to more than one value system from our text. The first value system that I relate to is the legalistic approach. I am a Christian and for me this system is based on a code of morals that derives from the Bible. Most people would consider the way I was raised to be very conservative. We had strict beliefs on sex (as in NO sex before marriage), homosexuality, abortion, modesty, and drinking. I always understood that we had faith in God and followed the rules set before us by God but I did struggle with this value system. It is difficult for me to have little to no understanding for people and their different situations. For the most part I do still have the same beliefs; I believe you should be married or in a committed relationship before sex, abortion is wrong in most situations, and drinking is not wrong but drinking to get drunk is wrong. The other value system that I relate to is the rationalism value system. This system is basically using reason to

Unformatted text preview: make decisions. I do believe that by using reasoning you can make ethical choices, including decision on sex. I believe that I can use intellect and reasoning to make my own decisions and still make the right decisions. I was raised to believe that abortion was wrong under any circumstance but by using reasoning I can see situations where the choice of abortion should be explored. For instance, if a person has four children, with no partner, job, or any way to support her children, then abortion may be an option for this person. I believe in making choices that are best for the individual person and should not be based on what other people expect of you. Some religions do not believe in blood transfusions but no matter my religion, if my child needed a blood transfusion to live I would agree to this procedure. Any situation put before you can be resolved by using reason and good judgment....
