Psych 212: Assignment 4 Systematic Observation or Content Analysis PART 2 Both Part 1 and Part 2 of Assignment 4 are due in class on Tuesday, February 22 nd For Part 2 of this assignment, you have 2 options: Option 1 : Create and utilize a systematic coding scheme to use as part of a naturalistic observation (where you do not interact with those you are observing) Option 2 : Create and utilize a systematic coding scheme for examining television programming (content analysis) For both options, you’ll need to find at least one other person to work with so that you can: Work together to generate a hypothesis and operational definitions Code the same content (either at the same time during a naturalistic observation, or by watching the same television shows) Calculate reliability for your coding Steps you’ll need to complete for this assignment: 1. Come up with a simple hypothesis Plan on measuring only 2 or 3 variables For example, you might look at gender and helpfulness and come up with the hypothesis that “Men are more helpful than women” or “Women are more helpful than men” 2. Determine operational definitions for each variable (include descriptions and/or examples) For the example above, I could use the following operational definition:
