Chapter 3: Persist Note Chapters Focus: Understand your college’s policies, procedures, and professors. Define personal responsibility and your role in the grading process. Use civility, personal decorum, self-management, and ethics to guide future plans. Understand personal integrity and avoid plagiarism and cheating. Find and use academic, cultural, campus, and personal success centers. Persistence means you are going to stay, found a way to not give up, last during rough times. Self-management- taking initiative and not waiting for someone else. Things to do when professor is foreign Sit near the front room Watch the professor mouth when you can Follow the professor nonverbal communication patterns Read material beforehand so that you will have a general understanding of what is being discussed Ask questions when you do not understand the material Importance of academic and personal integrity: law, fairness, conscience, time, pride, and publicity
