Bryan Bailey Engl 3373, Communication Situations Fall 2010 Online Considerations The legal, ethical and personal implications that exist for companies and employees in the articles, with regards to employee monitoring are exponential. For the employee, there is a lack of privacy and more employers are monitoring their employee’s keystrokes, voicemails, emails and instant messages. The thought behind the monitoring is that employees should not be using company equipment to perform personal tasks and handling personal business on company time. Further though, organizations are looking to intercept any illegal activity that could be conducted on company equipment, leaving the organization potentially liable. The potential risk of exposure is the driving force behind employee monitoring. While employee monitoring is important in my opinion, there has to be a grey area in which employees are able to communicate in certain personal situations. For example, a teacher emailing a parent at work, or
