Darius Owens Wrestling Essay During the past four years of my school experience, no extracurricular activity has been more significant to my personal development and growth than high school wrestling. Like most other sports, wrestling is a team endeavor that depends on the collective effort of many individuals contributing to the whole. Through this sport, I have experienced pain, sacrifice, adversity, and success. Varsity wrestling has instilled many qualities within me. First, through the years of hard work and continuous dieting, wrestling has taught me the true meaning of discipline and perseverance. The sport has also instilled in me strong work ethic and moral character. Wrestling has given me is a thorough understanding of what it means to be on a team.

Unformatted text preview: In several matches during my first year of wrestling, I was ineligible to compete because I did not make weight qualification. Not only did I let myself down, I hurt my team by leaving us a weight class short or by relying on a less competent team member in my place. Now as Co-Captain of my wrestling team, I work extra hard to maintain my weight balance and discipline, as well as motivating and inspiring my teammates to do the same. As a volunteer for the Tallwood High School Wrestling Club, I enjoy educating and coaching elementary and middle school students in beginning wrestling. Above all, though, wrestling has given me yet another passion for life. I plan to continue wrestling for many years to come....
