Theories of Learning Styles2 SCIENTIFIC THEORIES OF LEARNING STYLES Abbigail Hjerpe Theories of Learning Styles DeVry University Online Philosophy of Science Professor Elizabeth Kraske Learning is a very important part of lives in general. People have to learn or they would make the same mistakes over and over again. It is experiences that make us who we are and it is how we as people learn to do everything we know how to do. For without an interest or a gain for our own selves then most people will not perform a lot of the duties, tasks, or jobs that they have. The reason we want to learn is so that we can construct our own meaning. Do you know how many different ways there are to learn? In this essay we are going to talk about three different ways behaviorism, constructivism, and observational learning. Behaviorism is a learning theory; it focuses on objectively observable behaviors and discounts any independent activities of the mind (On Purpose Associates, 2008, Behaviorism ). Behaviorism is where learning is solely based upon the idea that all behaviors are acquired through conditioning (Cherry.K. 2011). There are two major types of conditioning. There is classical conditioning and there is operant conditioning. Classical conditioning is where you get something in return for doing a good job. A student at DeVry University got a 4.0 grade point average and received a gift card for $500.00 from her parents.
