There are many plans that connect employer and employee in their decisions of healthcare benefits. These plans are discussed and wayed upon by the employee who seeks to have the best coverage for the best price. When the right plan is selected the employee then confirms with the employer and the healthcare benefits begin. In the list that are available to employees from employers is the PPO plan. This plan is considered to be the most popular of all the plans provided. This particular plan requires the patient to get referrals from doctors to see other physicians for different specialties. This plan also allows the patient to see any doctor that they feel comfortable with. The PPO plans involves all aspects of the medical service field to participate in a contract that pays all service fees at a discounted rate. Under a PPO, the patient pays an annual premium and often a deductible. A PPO plan may offer either a low deductible with a higher premium or a high deductible with a lower premium. Insured members pay a co-payment at the time of each medical service. Each person may also have a yearly deductible to pay out of pocket. Coinsurance is often charged for in-network providers ( Valerius, Bayes, Newby, Seggern, 2008). The HMO plan is another plan that can be chosen as a means of healthcare. The HMO is a state licensed program known as the Health Maintenance Organization. It comes with very strict guidelines to be followed by physicians by the state. In this plan physicians refer patients to specialist and are compensated for the referrals that they provide. HMO's tend to be a one stop shop to most patients who like receiving treatment from one
