2 COMMUNICATION STYLES Communicating with others To determine my personal communication style, I took a survey that poses scenarios of what I would do most or least likely in each situation. This survey used a multiple-choice answer variation, which led me choose the answer that resonated with how I would respond to other people. Communication is extremely important in all areas of society. Even without knowing it, people may be expressing communication from their posture, facial cues, and other non-verbal means. This survey did not cover many of the non-verbal communication types but instead focused on situational occurrences. Depending on the chosen answer, the survey uses an algorithm to determine how influential, dominant, steadiness, conscientious a person would be in those scenarios ("DiSC Profile - What is DiSC®? The DiSC personality test and profile explained", 2020). When reading about 4 communication types I gravitated towards being a “personal communicator that values emotional language and connection and uses that as a mode to discover what others are really thinking” (Murphy, 2020). As I have learned about the culture of schools, I find it is important to understand how that school culture communicates. I have observed many different communication styles that are dependent on the school I was visiting at the time. For instance, at school “A”, I found that the school was mostly based on a face-to face style that was supported through email form. At school A, I was often directed to the person or employee directly through email or if sent from person to person (much like the game telephone). This made it difficult to receive information correctly and was not very quick. When information would become confusing, a precise email was needed to incorporate the team of 12 professionals to straighten out the communicated information.
3 COMMUNICATION STYLES I reflected that I could choose to be the person sending out the information and keeping the team “in the loop”, as I was the employee working directly with the student daily. This
