Ashlee Sisson April 22 nd , 2011 ENGL302: Prose Section1 Final Portfolio Essay For my short story assignment I chose to be a little risky and try to tackle the subject of death. Ten years ago my father died and I felt that since it had been so long ago I would be able to write the story with ease. When first beginning to write it I struggled to remember exactly how I felt at the time and decided to instead write the story in my older sister’s perspective. It ended up being tough to write the story either way and because I was writing to a professor I felt that I could not “show rather than tell”. I had a difficult time describing how we both felt at the time and what was happening around us. When I met with you I realized I needed to make some changes in my story. I decided to write in my sister’s perspective still but put the story in the form of diary entries rather than a simple story. This way I was able to write to a “diary” rather than a professor. I feel that my revision is much better than my first draft. Personally I know that I grew as a writer
