New Horizons Mission Once again, NASA is striving to accomplish something no other has done. In the year 2006, Nation Aeronautics and Space Administration had initiated a robotic spacecraft mission which goes by the name ‘New Horizons’. After a previous mission to Pluto (Pluoto Kuiper Express) was proposed and cancelled due to financial issues in the year 2000, New Horizons is the first ever mission which has successfully been launched for Pluto. Pluto is no longer recognized as one of the nine planets of the Solar System by the International Astronomical Union. However, prior to the launch of the spacecraft Pluto had still held its original classification; thus explaining the goal to 'examine the only unexplored planet in our Solar System.' New Horizons is currently heading towards the dwarf planet Pluto. This spacecraft is expected to the be initial spacecraft which will hover past this dwarf planet along with its moons. Since its launch, it has flew past numerous planets including Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus. The estimated arrival time at Pluto is July 14 th , 2015; thus resulting 2010 to be 'the halfway point'.
