16:01 Exam 2 Lecture 3: Musculoskeletal System Human Anatomy, Vivisection, and Lovesickness o Erasistratus (3 rd  century BC), Stratonice, and Antiochus all looked at  human anatomy o Vivisection- Dissecting criminals to see how the body functions while they  were alive o They discovered about the heart, vessels, weight, digestion, etc. o Lovesickness- Story of Erasistratus; Erasistratus checked the pulse of the  king’s son and discovered about lovesickness Anatomical Description of the Skeleton: o Galen (2 nd  century AD) Bones for Beginners (look at bones first) Gr. skeletos (means dried up) A capite ad calcem (from head to heel) Appendicular Skeleton- are the things that are added on (appendix) Axial Skeleton- composed of the skull to sacrum (core of the  skeleton) Ex. Hyoid Bone which is held together by muscles Know these: Sagittal Plane- Separates medial from lateral
