14:06 Exam 3 Lecture 2: Cardiovascular System Galen’s Cardiovascular system: o Tripartite soul- Liver (appetite), Heart (heat), Brain (psychic) o Vanous blood (dark red color; all veins are from liver) vs. Arterial blood  (light red color) (blood is produced while we eat) o Pores in Septum (invisible pores in heart go to left ventricle) (everything  that leaves the heart is arteries and releases heat) o No circulation (all veins are from liver) Leonardo’s Galenic Heart: o Sees body through Galen’s eyes William Harvey = circulation Harvey’s Proof: o Calculation of blood produced each day (says it’s absorbed by the body)  o Valves and direction of blood (valves in the veins do not allow blood to go  backwards; blood has to go toward the heart) o Color of the blood in the pulmonary vein (light red colored) (not in left  ventricle that this happens)
