Level of material appropriate for an honors class: Yes Amount of homework appropriate: Yes Homework difficulty appropriate: Yes Test Difficulty appropriateness: Slightly too hard Dr. Dore used a non-standard teaching method for this class. Instead of the traditional lecture format, he used a book called POGIL (Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning), by Dr. Andrew Straumanis. It is meant to teach organic chemistry concepts better than the traditional lecture format by having us work through and “discover” many of the concepts of organic chemistry while working in groups in class, then have that knowledge supplemented by reading from the textbook outside of class. In the past, the majority of students having learned under POGIL said that they preferred it to the traditional format. Unfortunately, I cannot say quite say the same. POGIL is a great first introduction
