BIO LAB – July 28, 2010 Activity #2 MOVEMENT OF MOLECULES ACROSS MEMBRANES Cordoba, Lance Oliver B. University of Asia and the Pacific ABSTRACT The experiment enabled the researcher to conduct a study on different components of Albumin. Animal Tissue and Latex Gloves were used to enclose the substances while we conducted tests. Benedict’s Reagent and Biuret Reagent were the main substances used in this experiment. INTRODUCTION Cell Membrane is a permeable membrane that permits molecules to pass through it. It is composed mostly of Phospholipids and Protein molecules; wherein it regulates the intake of molecules out of the cells. Where in which are involved in a variety of cellular processes such as cell adhesion, ion channel conductance and cell signaling. The experiment also focused on the Diffusion and Osmosis process of a cell. In actuality, Osmosis and Diffusion is just the same phenomenon but with different materials involved. At the end the researchers must be able to identify the if there are biomolecular substaces present in the test subjects. MATERIALS AND METHODS Materials: unknown substances in different beakers, 13 x 100 mm test tubes, Biuret reagent, iodine – potassium iodide (IKI) solution, Benedict’s reagent, detergent, beakers of water, gulaman plates, 1 M methylene blue solution, methylene blue powder (or food coloring powder), 1 M potassium permanganate (KMnO 4
