EVOLUTION OF FORMAL ORGANIZATIONS 2 Assignment: Evolution of Formal Organizations Formal Organizations change constantly, with all the ever changing technological advances; it seems once we get an understanding of something, and a new technology comes along and changes it. Organizations were once small groups of families, friends and neighbors that communicated personally, without all the technological advances that are used today. Today most organizations are formal, that run with many rules and regulations to keep things efficient, so as people come and go the operations don’t change and that is important for things to remain profitable, but is it important for the moral of the people and customers? What is different today from organizations centuries ago, it they lacked technology and society then was very traditional. A formal organization is a social system that is organized with specific goals and consists of several interrelated groups. Formal organizations are governed by clearly stated, rigidly enforced rules and regulations. Corporations, the Catholic Church, court systems, university administrations, and military organizations all have properties of formal organizations (Formal Organization , 2000). There is also the open, flexible organization that has fewer levels of hierarchy. This type of organization allows more shared responsibility for creating ideas and making decisions. Flexible organizations have teams of people with a broader knowledge of the organization’s operating system, which creates a more comfortable environment.
