CMN136 Exam 2 Chapter 7: Assimilation Processes Assimilation= Socialization + Individualization - Dual process - 1. Assimilation - Is a dual process - those ongoing behavioral and cognitive processes - by which individuals join, - become integrated into, - and exit organizations Socialization - influence the adaptation of individuals through formal and informal socialization processes Individualization - employee try to change some aspect of the organization - to better suit his needs , abilities or desires 2. 3 Phases of Socialization [From Anticipatory socialization metamorphosis] a) Anticipatory socialization - Socialization that occurs before entry - Encompasses both socialization to an occupation - And socialization to an organization - E.g. learning about work, nature of job, particular corporation etc. - E.g. boys get socialized to become a policeman coz police is cool on TV b) Encounter - Sense making stage - Occurs when a new employee enter the org - Let go of old roles and values - To adapt
