Program 5 Numerical Linear Algebra 1 Fall 2010 Due date: via email before the Final Exam on Thursday, 12/9/10 1 General Task Implement a unified incremental (Givens rotation-based) approach to FOM and GMRES, i.e., the code should be able to select one or the other. Demonstrate and compare the behavior of the two approaches with your code. In particular, verify the relative behavior of the two methods on the example problem in Homework 6 and others of your own design. You need not use preconditioning and should use the ratio k r i k 2 / k r 0 k 2 as the stopping criterion. For problems where you know the true solution also examine the behavior of k x i - x k . You need not write the code using the sparse primitives you implemented earlier but it is encouraged. Include a description of your testing procedure and your results.

A document describing important aspects of the code, the tests used and the results generated to validate the correct functioning of the code. You should write this in a manner intended to convince me that your code behaves correctly. 2. The source code, makeles, and instructions on how to compile and execute your code including the machine used if applicable. 3. Code documentation should be included in each routine. These results should be emailed to gallivan@math.fsu.edu before the beginning of the Fi-nal Exam.
