GB19 COURSE PORTFOLIO PROJECT 2 Abstract  The online division of Kaplan University serves the community of students that do not  have the time to attend a ground campus due to their work and family commitments.  Many students also select Kaplan because online is their preference, even if they had  the time to drive to campus.  This is a rapidly growing demographic as society becomes  more technologically sophisticated each day.  This paper will analyze Kaplan  University’s performance based on all relevant factors, focusing on the online division of  Kaplan University.

GB19 COURSE PORTFOLIO PROJECT 3 Kaplan University Performance Scorecard This paper will evaluate the different performance criteria for the online division of  Kaplan University, using the balanced scorecard approach. All of the different  departments that contribute to the Kaplan product are interrelated and relevant to each  other. Kaplan Overview Kaplan was founded as a test preparation company in 1938 by Stanley Kaplan.  He began operations in the basement of his home in Brooklyn, and expanded to  locations across the country.  In 1984 he sold the company to the Washington Post.  The test preparation division has grown to include courses and test preparation  materials for a wide variety of exams such as the SAT, ACT, LSAT (Law School  Admissions Test), CPA, GRE and GMAT.  Today Kaplan University is a part of Kaplan,  Inc. which is owned by the Washington Post.  Kaplan University is an educational  service organization and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Washington Post.  Kaplan  currently has over 77 ground campuses, and the parent campus is in Davenport, Iowa. It  offers Associates, Bachelors and Graduate degrees as well as both graduate and  undergraduate certificate programs in the areas of business, law, criminal justice,  nursing, education and psychology.  It is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning  Commission and a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.  Kaplan University is the DBA name of the Iowa College Acquisition Corporation, which  owns and operates for profit colleges.
