Fortune 500: Pepsi Co. In the article, “Fortune 500,” by CNN Money dated May 4, 2009, Pepsi Co. ranked number 52 of the top companies rated by Fortune 500 with its 43,251 millions of revenues and 5,142 millions of profits. Throughout its years of operation, Pepsi Co. has encountered many challenges and adjustments to enhance its competitiveness against other companies that also offer beverages. Though Pepsi has been considered the underdog against its rivalry with Coke, undoubtedly, it has survived the test of time. The major reasons for these are the improvement of its workforce and innovative marketing strategies. In an article. “Strategic Analysis of Pepsi-Cola Company,” dated February 22, 2008 posted on the website “Thinking Made It Easy,” the growth of the Pepsi Co. was analyzed. It was stated that before the introduction of sodas into the market, such beverage was not a necessity. Soft drinks were not that essential during those days. It was even advised by many that people should not drink sodas regularly because of its unpleasant side effects of overconsumption of such product. However, soft drinks have become one of the most in demand beverages in the market, especially in the modern times. The said product has certainly caught the taste of the masses. Its sweetness has made it more desirable than the tastes of liquor and juices. One main reason for this is that young consumers who are not yet allowed to drink liquor can order soft drinks instead. On the other hand, the older generation is as well attracted to soft drinks because of its pleasant flavor. In other words, soft drinks gave the consumers an image of a healthy lifestyle and a desirable flavor for beverages. Incidentally, Pepsi is one of the leading companies that made soft drinks become an essential part of everybody’s

lifestyle. The said company was effective enough to market soft drinks with its competitive marketing strategies and dynamic handling of its workforce.
