HW 6 solutions There are several ways one can go about modeling this dataset. First, one must choose the methods of clustering. As can be seen when several different methods are used, the results are strikingly different . Whether this is due to the shape of the clusters or of the existence of clusters is hard to say without more knowledge of the science. Second, once a method is chosen, the number of clusters must be decided. Using pseudo-F, we see that the number of clusters should equal the number of observations in the dataset since it is highest for the case of each observation being its own cluster. Pseudo-t does not provide any more information that would allow us to identify a smaller number of clusters. If we choose to look at the dendrogram instead and base our decision on the number of clusters based on the distance between nodes, we would choose two, three or five clusters when using Ward’s method of clustering. obsnum 240 90 259 121 95 89 153 72 329 93 161 96 70 150 64 85 37 111 92 163 88 68 86 67 143 100 328 98 80 73 160 137 69 158 65 301 265 233 303 134 117 284 136 128 312 135 112 216 107 118 106 309 302 299 148 187 125 330 110 157 129 131 108 325 162 101 120 182 109 74 132 195 66 307 181 18 322 321 323 254 326 194 177 149 184 214 58 249 211 179 213 212 228 97 171 155 54 24 178 114 104 151 203 102 156 76 176 119 115 113 99 122 77 94 60 251 236 316 52 87 79 78 257 47 282 210 207 46 291 324 220 159 279 208 296 124 319 239 305 304 192 317 185 81 289 31 268 199 275 189 13 295 292 271 204 84 21 225 164 116 6263 258 169 57 223 242 26 30 235 48 9146 49 278 273 209 44 40 246 215 152 55 28 17 306 186 218 154 274 147 20 19 230 183 7145 105 83 231 311 217 133 75 36 243 62 327 59 272 63 91 23 266 245 232 280 281 270 167 261 241 173 144 276 10 172 27 5310 264 221 139 130 234 193 127 202 191 190 103 293 140 290 123 283 262 224 206 205 15 61 244 41 38 35 250 165 253 25 286 227 180 287 260 34 300 82 71 314 141 51 226 168 219 29 294 288 188 53 285 238 201
