So some things to look for concerning the two principal component analyses described in the paper: Two PCA analyses performed: Behavioral Tests (BT) in which each fish was observed responding to three situations (tranquil, food and alerting). Morphometrics (MO) in which each fish was measured in many ways. 1) How many variables were used? BT had 17 variables: T-FHT, T-FVT, T-VP, T-CVVP, T-CVHP, F-FF, F-FHT, F-FVT, F-VP, F-CVVP, F- CVHP, A=FA, A-FHT, A-FVT, A-VP, A-CVVP, and A-CVHP. MO had 29 variables: standard length plus another 28 according to the map in Figure 1. 2) How many observations were used? BT used 40 fish (19 purebred and 21 hybrid) MO used 65 fish (33 purebred and 32 hybrid) 3) How many PC axes were chosen by the researchers? In the BT they chose 7 axes accounting for 76% of the total variation in the variables. In the MO study they chose 8 axes accounting for 82% of the total variation in the variables. 4)
