SYLLABUS Fall 2009  STA 4502 Non-Parametric Methods  STA 5507 Applied Non-Parametric Methods Meeting Times:  MWF Period 6 and optional Lab W Period 7 Classroom:  Matherly Hall (MAT) 0105  Computer Laboratory:  McCarty Hall B (MCCB) 2103 Instructor:  Dr. Minjung Kyung, 226 Griffin-Floyd,  kyung@stat.ufl.edu Instructor Office Hours:  MF Period 7 or by appointment TA:  Nate Holt, 4 th  floor McCarty C,  nateholt@ufl.edu   TA Office Hours: Class Website:  http://www.stat.ufl.edu/~kyung/sta5507/sta45025507.html   Course Description:  Introduction to nonparametric statistics, including one and two  sample testing and estimation methods, one- and two-way layout models, and  correlation and regression models. This course assumes that students have taken at least  one introductory statistics course and have learned the usual parametric statistical  inference techniques. For example, methods that assume that either the data are  sampled from a normally distributed population or that the large sample distribution of  the test statistics is normal may not be appropriate for some problems.   Prerequisites: Students are expected to have taken and passed (C or better) at  least one semester of Introductory Statistics (two is better). We assume some  knowledge of statistical inference (hypothesis testing and estimation), sampling  distributions, statistical computing software (SAS, JMP, R, SPSS).   Required Text:  Higgins, J. J., 2003.  Introduction to Modern Nonparametric Statistics.  Duxbury Press. ISBN-10: 0534387756; ISBN-13: 978-0534387754.
