Week 3 Discussion 1 There were major initiatives and strategical documents createdfollowing the 9/11 attacks. After reading the Homeland SecurityStrategy, 2001 to 2004 section (specifically the National Strategy forHomeland Security 2002) under Course Modules which one of thethree strategic objectives are being met and if they are not being methow can they be improved? After reading the Homeland Security Strategy, 2001-2004 in the course modules that was provided in this week’s course content, the three strategic objectives identified were; prevention of terrorist attacks within the United States, reduction of America’s vulnerability to terrorism and minimize the damage and recover from attacks that do occur (UMUC, n.d.). While I do not completely agree with the order of priority that these objectives were placed in, of the three, I think reduction of America’s vulnerability to terrorism is being met. While there is no way to completely stop and or prevent all formsof terrorist attacks within the United States, whether they be domestic or international attacks, there are things that can be done to reduce the vulnerability. We have witnessed this first hand after the September 11thattacks. A little over two months after the attacks, the Aviation and Transportation Security Act was passed by the Bush administration. Airport security was completely remodeled and reinforced with the implementation of the Transportation Security Administration. This act is an example of how America reduced the chances of a similar attack happening on American soil. As unfortunate as it may sounds, it takes for something to happen for changes to be made to reduce the chances of something similar happening again. References1. UMUC (n.d.) I think part of it may because the government doesn’t want
