Most of the instruments we have looked at contained vibrating strings or air columns. Each instrument played a series of harmonics although not all harmonics were present. Within the limitations of the tuning schema, most combinations sounded ok. There were some strange peaks in the spectra usually due to some strange mechanical linkage in the instrument or to what is referred to as non-linear (evil) effects. So far, life has been harmonious! Percussion 4 Lets talk Molecular Chemistry Percussion 5 From more advanced PHYSICS Each of the motions described on the previous slide are called normal normal modes modes . It can be shown that the motion of a system (such as CO 2 ) under any condition can be expressed as a summation of these normal modes with various phases and amplitudes. Percussion 6 Furthermore ..
