Week 2 Alabama Physical Therapy Practice Act of 1975 Alabama Administrative code of Physical Therapy I. Patients Bill of Rights Developed by the American Hospital Association in 1973 A) Why was it created?- It was created with the expectation to contribute to more effective patient care and be supported by the hospital on behalf of the institution, the medical staff, employees, and patients B) Why Hospitals? Hospitals are the setting for the provision of health services. Hospitals must set the standard for understanding and respecting the rights and responsibilities of patients, their families, physicians and other caregivers C) Hospitals cater to a variety of patients so healthcare personnel should be sensitive to: 1) Cultural Diversity- race 2) Age specific competencies/Sensitivities 3) Religious differences and how they may effect medical decisions even if the patient is at risk for dying 4) Communicate through interpreters when available to be involved with the decision making process in their medical care. This is usually accomplished through contractors or hospital staff who are bilingual and get paid a fee by the hospital to assist the
