The major difference between push and pull strategies are: push strategies, does just that; push the product to the consumer. Similarly, pull strategies; pull the consumer to the product. The similarity is that both strategies involve marketing the product, and they both aim for the same result; selling to the consumer. This push strategy works in that, the consumer smells the product that they might not have otherwise, and therefore makes a purchase. What is an example of a situation in which an organization would use a pull strategy? A pull strategy that comes to mind is during Christmas Holidays. There always seems to be that hot, exiting, new toy that every just has to have. The problem is the stores never seem to have them in stock. The advertising and aggressive marketing hypes everyone up and causes a mad rush. This type of pull strategy occurs every Holiday Season; tickle me elmo, playstation, etc....
