Unformatted text preview: LAB SAFETY 1. Apparel: Shoes are to be worn at all times. It is best not to wear open toed shoes or sandals, since they offer no protection from spills. We will be using substances that can ruin your clothes, e.g. bleach, so if you have a lab coat, you may want to wear it. We will not be using many dangerous chemicals, but safety glasses will be provided when we are using acids, etc. 2. No eating, drinking or smoking in the laboratory at any time. 3. Spills: If you spill a chemical on yourself, wash immediately with copious amounts of water and notify the TA or me. In the event of a spill on the floor or a bench involving hazardous materials (such as strong acid or base or a volatile organic compound) notify us immediately and receive instructions regarding cleanup before attempting to clean it up yourself. 4.
