Running Head: The Role of the Financial Manager July 2011 Assignment What is a CFO, exactly? A Chief Financial Officer is a type of Chief Executive Officer or CEO, except the Chief Financial Offer makes decisions which effect only company money. Company CEO’s make decision which direct the entire company. That’s the distinguishing difference between the two roles. For about 30 years, a growing number of companies have been looking to their chief financial offers to step up and lead and/or handle finances. For some, it may be a tall order and it overwhelmes then. However, in many instances the gamble pays off. Allow me to give you a more in-depth picture of what a each job requires. The CEO is essentially the company’s leader. He is ultimately responsible for the success and failure of the company. His role is to lead the company and determines its direction. The CEO, along with his crew upper level management, sets goals and targets for the whole company for the company to achieve. He may plan mergers, decide to open a new branch, or listen to new idea from his marketing or design teams concerning new products.
