1. Discuss the impact of technology on nursing education and practice. (Helpful hint: QSEN and TIGER readings) Technology has impacted both nursing education and nursing practice in positive and negative ways. Negative impact has been the lack of nursing’s involvement and input in many technological and informatics decisions in healthcare facilities. Also the lack of a standardized nursing language is a stumbling block to incorporating EMRs and informatics programs into the curriculum. Clinical rotations pre-licensure may take place in several healthcare facilities with completely different technology. In addition, lack of understanding by Schools of Nursing on the importance of technology and informatics preparation pre-licensure, as well as, lack of competent informatics instructors to teach make incorporating informatics into nursing programs difficult. These areas have been addressed in the TIGER initiative in detail and some advances have been attained since its origin in 2004. (Fetter, 2009)
