Unformatted text preview: Funches 1 Macharia Funches English 106 Professor Judkins 8/25/2010 Diagnostic Essay Throughout history Engineering has played a vital role in the development of society. Because engineers design products that are used by people these products must be guaranteed not to just work but to protect the user from any sort of malfunction that may occur. In my EPICS class professor Oakes discussed how when he was designing engines for GM some time ago, a company that supplied the bolts for their engines began signing off and shipping bolts that had not been tested, and therefore had falsely guaranteed the success of a product which could possibly be faulty, thus putting the users of the engines at risk. Morally irresponsible actions such as these are completely inexcusable in the engineering world because engineers produce all sorts of products which directly affect people’s lives every day.
