Funches 1 Macharia Funches English 106 Proffessor Judkins 9/2/2010 Reflective Essay Two My high school English career consisted mostly of reading books, poems, and short stories and then having in depth class discussions about underlying themes, the roles that characters played, and how the book was viewed during the time it was written. Another key point that we focused on during class was the effect that the book had on the people during the time it was written. Along with discussing these several ideas we were also frequently assigned to flesh out our thoughts through forty five minutes of free-writing, which consisted of constant writing for the said amount of time about the previous night’s assignment. The academic essays that we wrote followed the general idea of interlacing themes in a few books, poems, or short stories that we read to support an answer to some sort of prompt. I also frequently used writing in my history classes. We wrote about why we thought certain events occurred and how those events effected history. In class we read a book which guided us from past to present, listing and analyzing major events that occurred throughout
