Perception => mostly behavioral phenonmenon   Sensory systems filter info --> NS distorts info   Lateral inhibition in the retina: Cells in retina inhibit neighbors' activity Helps for seeing edges Distorts info into a way that is useful to you   Perception is influence by other things than the energy of physical world   Sensory Systems Interact : McGurk Effect - Man articulating "Gah" audio saying "Bah" --> you perceive him to say "Dah" Categorical Perception : Don't perceive something between Gah and Bah, but a whole other  category --> Not thought to occur in animals other than humans   Perception influenced by experience and expectation --> knowledge of events   Sight Blindness: caused by brain damage in visual  --> people report being blind, but if forces to "guess" event they are right   Filtering of info: elephants hear lower frequencies, cats hear higher frequencies
