Unemployment 2 Unemployment: How it Affects Society as a Whole The topic I have chosen and feel has already and will continue to cause a great deal of change, although it may be obvious by the title of this paper is unemployment. Whether the rate has been high or low it has always created changes within society. Unfortunately the direction the unemployment rate is headed is up, way up! Being without a job is a personal problem for the individual, however this is an issue that ends up negatively affecting society as a whole. One reason I feel that unemployment is heading in this direction is because of the millions of jobs that have already been lost since President Obama took office, and his current policies (liberal) are causing even more job losses every day (CBS News, 2009). Another reason I believe this is the current trend and not likely to get any better before it gets allot worse, is because out of the ten sources that I have researched, everyone of them showed the current rate as being at an all time high. In fact, one source in particular showed the highest rate in 26 years (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2009). There is no doubt that there will always be a percentage of society that for one reason or another find themselves unemployed. I remember a time when I believed that it was possible for me to get a new job every week, and that anyone that does not have a job, is just lazy and does not want to work.

Adding all the problems with the economy and it has made it nearly impossible. That being said, I know there are many different reasons why the unemployment rate is so high, least of which is due to individual laziness. It is these experiences that have completely changed my opinion on why there is such a high rate of unemployment in this country. To put it into perspective how high the
