Greta Streed English 341-01 January 26, 2010 Assignment 1 1. Good readers interact with what they read. You can’t just read through something quickly and then put it down and forget about it. It’s my personal opinion that a good reader thinks while they read. A good reader asks questions and takes notes, I’m notorious for scribbling all over text while I read because otherwise I stop and have no idea what I just read. Making comments and questions and getting involved in the texts makes you remember more and the more you engage the more the reading means to you. Good readers also go slowly. You can’t fly through a text and expect that just because you read every word it means anything to you. Often times you have to reread the same sentence three or four times because it doesn’t make sense. To really gain a sense of understanding from what you’re reading you must be an active reader, someone who is continuously relating different readings back to each other and real experiences, asking questions and forming comments and opinions throughout. 2.
