Greta Streed My Side of the Mountain Lesson Plan 1. In the Harry Potter novels and movies Harry is an orphan by circumstances outside of his control and must create a new life for himself outside of the “muggle” world he’s always known and learn to survive as a wizard. In a well-developed essay with due attention to grammar and spelling, compare how Sam is like Harry and how they’re circumstances are very different. Try to ignore that Harry is a wizard and Sam is not and focus on ideas such as, Sam chooses to live away from his parents and family whereas Harry had no choice but to be raised away from his parents. 2. Bando affectionately names Sam, Thoreau and calls him by that name throughout the novel. Your job is to find out who Thoreau was in history and create a presentation to teach the class about him. This presentation should include who Thoreau was historically (when he was born, where he lived, what he did etc), why you think Bando calls Sam
