The basic elements of both the Disney and Grimm stories were very similar. Both included a girl with skin white as snow, lips red as blood and hair black as ebony. Both versions feature a beautiful but wicked step mother who victimizes Snow White, an absent father, dwarves and a heroic prince who falls in love at first sight. However, as usual Disney has sugar coated a rather dark and evil fairy tale. A step mother asks a hunter to bring her back Snow White’s lungs and liver so she may salt and eat them, that is seriously evil. The whole story revolves around a rivalry inspired by jealousy over beauty, where Snow White is oblivious and the queen is out for blood. The dark sided tale continues when the queen has to dance in red hot shoes until she dies whereas Disney has her pushed off a cliff. Disney deaths usually involve evil creatures falling off of things, where death is implied but not directly addressed. The Grimm version has no problem dealing directly with the cruel and torturous death of the queen. Also, the Disney version completely ignores Snow White’s birth mother,
