1 Challenges and Benefits of Group and Team Conflict Management Overview of this workshop We have all experienced conflict in unique and personal ways. We must be perceptive enough to understand what roles we ourselves play in creating or exacerbating conflict. At the end of this workshop, participants will better understand and practice the skills and strategies of conflict resolution. These skills and strategies are supported by research of how the most effective conflict managers think, act, and work together. Who should attend this workshop? Managers must resolve conflicts between employees, between themselves and employees, with their own managers, with other managers, etc. Trainers who want to better manage the difficult participants Consultants who want to better facilitate their clients to more effective and fruitful decisions Project Managers who must keep everyone happy and effectively coordinate groups of disparate people while not having any authority to actually do so Anyone who is not satisfied with how they resolve conflict in their lives

2 Objectives (Benefits for individuals) On completion of this workshop, you will be able to: Identify the critical features and benefits of conflict management. Identify different types of conflict and different techniques for managing them. Differentiate between confrontational and collaborative reactions to a conflict. Acquire the collaborative mindset. Identify hot buttons and reduce their impact on conflict management behavior. Apply the six-step conflict-management procedure for identifying, analyzing, and managing conflicts - and learning from the process. Use appropriate techniques for identifying and managing negative emotional reactions that accompany a conflict. Implement the selected ideas immediately and effectively. Identify the time for seeking third-party mediation in an escalating conflict. Acquire and effectively use appropriate third-party mediation. Provide appropriate third-party mediation to help your co-workers to manage conflicts. Reflect on a conflict management experience and share the lesson learned with the conflict partner.
