Print This Page   Lesson 8  Personality  Introduction: Connecting Your Learning  In this lesson you will be pulling together the topics of cognition, emotion, and motivation. You will be  looking at the  total person . How does it all fit together? A  theory of personality  attempts to provide a  comprehensive explanation  of the total human psyche, including  mind emotion , and  behavior . Again you will see that there are  different theories  attempting to explain the topic of inquiry. In particular, in  this lesson you will study in some depth the ideas of the  psychodynamic  theorists, such as Freud and Jung.  Although it is often stated that modern personality and abnormal psychology has moved beyond Freud and  psychodynamic psychology, the foundation of most contemporary thinking in these areas goes back to Freud  and his associates. It is important that you understand Freud - his influence has been immense. The  biological social-cognitive, cultural,   trait,  and  humanistic  perspectives on personality are also explored in  the assigned chapter.
